Step 1- Online Pre-Requisite
At the start of every season, all officials, wheather new or returning, are required to complete an online pre-requisite. These courses usually open up in mid August of each year. To sign up for the 2026-2027 season, please click

Step 2- In Person Classroom and On Ice Clinics
Once the online pre-requisite is completed, all officials are also required to complete in person classroom and on ice clinics. These are offered locally usually in mid September with dates being set towards the end of August
For the 2026-2027 season:
RETURNING LEVEL 1 AND RETURNING LEVEL 2: the mandatory in-person classroom and on-ice clinic portion is currently being planned for September 16th from 5-9 pm at theMemorial Arena.

NEW LEVEL 1 AND NEW LEVEL 2: the mandatory in-person classroom and on-ice clinic portion will take place on Sunday Oct 25th from 11 am -4 pm at the Memorial Arena

I'm Certified/Re Certified, Now What?
Once certified, you will be added to the Assignr App. This is where your game assignments will be and where you can go on and request games. Please note, assigments are based on the availability you enter on this app so please make sure to keep this current.
Payment for games is done via EMT from Cranbrook Minor Hockey.
Equipment Needed
* Hockey referee jersey (member crest (BC Hockey) on left chest and Hockey Canada Crest on the left sholder) Crests are iron on will be given by CMHA
* Referee whistle (whistle with finger grips)
*Black CSA certified helmet with a half visor
*Skates
*Neck guard
*Black pants- no jeans, and lined pants are a good idea as it can be very cold
*Athletic Cup
*Shin pants and elbow pads
*Depending your level, you may also need the red arm bands
