Mr. Bruce Clark and Ms. Susan Pel have appealed a decision by the CMHA to expel them and their children. The CMHA is committed to ensuring the appeal process is impartial and that all parties receive a fair hearing and as such has this limited media release. The CMHA will be submitting evidence that will demonstrate that Mr. Clark and Ms. Pel engaged in repeated incidents of abuse, intimidation and disruption toward their child’s team, CMHA coaches, parents and other CMHA volunteers at various times throughout the 2016/17 hockey season. The CMHA warned and/or disciplined both parents’ numerous times before they were forced to expel Mr. Clark and Ms. Pel and their children. The CMHA attempted to negotiate a settlement that would ensure the children obtained a release and were allowed to play elsewhere but this was rejected by Mr. Clark and Ms. Pel.
The CMHA is committed to providing a positive and safe experience for volunteers, parents and the youth that participate in minor hockey. The increase in parental abuse of volunteers is well documented and the CMHA has a duty to protect its members and to work diligently to provide a positive and safe experience for all. The CMHA will have no further comment regarding this situation until a decision of the appeals committee has been rendered.
